Ideas are far more powerful than guns. We do not want our enemies to have guns, why would we allow them to have ideas?

The SDN is the feared Intelligence Service and Secret Police of the Galactic Empire. The SDN exists to ensure the loyalty of all citizens of the Galactic Empire, as well as to protect the Galactic Empire from all threats, both internal and external. The SDN has broad, sweeping powers, and its influence extends to all areas of life within the Galactic Empire.

The SDN is considered above the law in many ways. In order to ensure the loyalty of all Imperials, the SDN does not answer to anyone except the Emperor. The SDN sets its own budget, and chooses and trains its own personnel. This secrecy allows the SDN considerable freedom to carry out its objectives.

The SDN expects and receives the cooperation and obedience of the Imperial citizenry. Citizens are to be ever vigilant for signs of disloyalty or treason, and to report the offender to the SDN. Most people are afraid to voice opinions against anything the government tells them. Speaking out in any way is often taken as a sign of disloyalty and one never knows where the SDN spies are hiding.

Agents of the SDN also receive full cooperation from the government and military in carrying out their work, albeit somewhat grudgingly. An agent can commandeer whatever he or she considers necessary to complete his or her mission, up to and including Imperial military resources and vessels. An agent's orders are to be followed immediately, without question; such questioning can be taken as signs of disloyalty.

The SDN carries out hundreds if not more operations daily, gathering information and developing new technologies and techniques for protecting the citizenry. The SDN is a constant presence in Imperial life. Every Imperial knows agents of the SDN are watching at all times, and act accordingly, however, not everyone actually encounters the SDN. For many loyal citizens, it is merely a presence, but rarely taking action.

SDN Rank Structure

SDN General
This is the highest rank in the SDN. Generals will be responsible for running SDN operations and reporting results to the Director. Generals will administrate all levels of SDN agents and provide direct administrative support to the Director. Generals must be full time SDN officers (Members of the Armed Forces or other divisions cannot advance beyond SDN Captain). SDN Generals have a license to kill anyone without question as long as it fits into their mission. At this high level of SDN rank, SDN Generals are free to pursue matters of Imperial security as they see fit. SDN Generals only take orders directly from the Director or under special circumstances from the Emperor himself.

SDN Major General
This is the second highest rank in the SDN. It represents the ultimate in non-administrative rank in the Secret Defence Network. SDN Major Generals will have the freedom to pursue subjects that they feel are important to Imperial Security. They also carry an unrestricted license to kill anyone that interferes with their mission of protecting Imperial Security. Major Generals have the authority to take action, the trust to take chances, and the backup of the entire SDN. Major Generals are the most effective agents. Major Generals must be full time SDN officers (Members of the Armed Forces or other divisions cannot advance beyond SDN Captain).

SDN Colonel
This rank separates experienced agents from SDN Officers. Colonels must be full time SDN officers (Members of the Armed Forces or other divisions cannot advance beyond SDN Captain). SDN Officers have made covert operations and intelligence gathering their primary focus in their decision to become an SDN Officer. SDN Officers must not be a member of any other Imperial Organization or Division. During the most delicate of SDN operations, only SDN officers will be chosen to take part. All SDN operations are not to be discussed with any non-SDN Member unless instructed by the Director or Emperor. By dedicating your career to the SDN you will be a part of the Secret Defence Network inner sanctum, helping the Emperor and Imperial government make educated decisions about the future of the Empire.

SDN Captain
This rank represents an SDN Member that takes part in SDN operations on a regular basis and is experienced in the arts of intelligence gathering and covert operations. Senior SDN Captains may also be involved in other divisions and may hold other offices within the Empire. This is the highest rank an SDN member may receive without becoming full time SDN. While taking part in SDN operations Captains report to SDN Officers. You must complete several missions and have the respect of the SDN Officers before you can reach the rank of SDN Captain.

SDN Lieutenant
This rank represents a license to take part in SDN covert and intelligence gathering operations. You can become an SDN Lieutenant through recruitment only. If intelligence gathering and the "spy" thing are your interest, then the SDN is for you!
